Eagles Release QB Kyle McCord, Claimed on Waiver Wire

The Philadelphia Eagles have released former Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The decision comes after the team traded for Vikings quarterback Sam Howell over the weekend. As part of the NFL’s roster trimming process, which must be completed by 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Eagles will now let McCord go and put him on waivers.

McCord was drafted in the sixth round this year but struggled to find his footing during preseason games. He took all snaps in Saturday’s final game, completing just 15 of 35 passes for 136 yards and an interception, finishing with a low QB rating of 42.1.

The release of McCord is not a surprise given the Eagles’ acquisition of Howell, who set numerous school records at Syracuse during his one season. The move also leaves Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito’s future uncertain, as the team has drafted Jaxson Dart and brought in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason.
