Eagles Training Camp Preview: Key Players to Watch and Position Battles

The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2025 training camp is set to begin on July 22 at the NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia. The defending Super Bowl champions return a star-studded cast on offense, led by running back Saquon Barkley, receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

However, the team’s defensive side of the ball is facing significant uncertainty due to the loss of several key contributors. Key players such as edge rushers Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat, cornerback Darius Slay, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and defensive tackle Milton Williams are no longer with the team.

To offset this production loss, the Eagles have signed ascending players like Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt, who will need to step up to fill key roles at all three levels of the defense. Three players to watch during training camp include cornerback Kelee Ringo, safety Andrew Mukuba, and running back AJ Dillon.

Ringo is in line for a starting role outside corner after Slay’s departure, while Mukuba will be competing with Sydney Brown and Tristin McCollum for the starting safety spot opposite Reed Blankenship. Dillon, who has 2,428 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns in 60 career games, will be vying for the No. 2 role along with Will Shipley.

The team is also facing key position battles, including right guard, where Tyler Steen is considered the favorite to start. The Eagles have acquired former first-round pick Kenyon Green as part of the Gardner-Johnson trade.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo’s arrival marks the fifth different playcaller Jalen Hurts has had in six NFL seasons. Despite this change, there is hope that the learning curve will be less steep with Patullo working alongside coach Nick Sirianni during his entire time as head coach.

The 53-man roster projection has been released, featuring a mix of veteran players and young talent. With training camp just around the corner, it’s clear that the Eagles are preparing for an exciting season ahead.
