Earnings Week Preview: Alphabet, Amazon, and More

The corporate earnings season is reaching its halfway point, with over 100 S&P 500 companies scheduled to post their latest quarterly reports. Among those are Alphabet, Amazon, and Advanced Micro Devices. The busiest week of the reporting period will see more than 180 S&P 500 members report fourth-quarter earnings so far, with 77% beating analyst expectations.

On Monday, Palantir Technologies is set to report earnings after the bell, followed by a call at 5 p.m., with analysts expecting a 37% year-over-year jump in earnings. The company has rallied more than 10% in four of the last five earnings days.

Tuesday’s reports will include Pfizer’s earnings, expected to grow over 20% from the year-earlier period, as well as Alphabet’s, forecast to have grown by nearly 30%. Both companies are seen benefiting from encouraging results from Meta Platforms. However, investors will look for clarity on Pfizer’s drug pipeline and history shows that both Alphabet and Pfizer have strong track records of beating expectations.

On Wednesday, Disney is set to report earnings before the open, with a call scheduled for 8:30 a.m., expected to show solid earnings growth but revenue expanding by just 4%. Analysts believe Disney is well-positioned in a challenged media industry due to its unique content and improving streaming financials. However, history shows that Disney has beaten earnings estimates for six straight quarters.

Thursday’s reports will include Ford Motor’s earnings, expected to grow 20% year-over-year, despite headwinds from volume and price. Analyst Dan Levy is not optimistic heading into the report, citing uncertainty over cost actions offsetting these drags.

Finally, Amazon is set to report earnings after the bell on Thursday, with a call slated for 5 p.m., expected to show nearly 50% year-on-year growth. Bank of America analyst Justin Post expects AI-driven Cloud growth and retail margin expansion to drive outsized profit growth versus peers.

This week’s reports will provide insights into the performance of these companies and their respective industries, offering a glimpse into the earnings season’s trajectory.
