Eat to Beat Bowel Cancer: Gut Doctor Reveals Six Healthy Snacks

A top gut doctor has revealed that eating a daily portion of yoghurt and adding nuts to your breakfast can help reduce the risk of bowel cancer. Dr Joseph Salhab, who has over 1.4 million views on his Instagram video on the topic, recommends incorporating these foods into your diet due to their high levels of fibre, protein, and omega-3 fats.

Fibre is essential for maintaining a healthy gut, as it supports regular bowel movements and reduces the time toxins remain in contact with the bowel wall. According to Bowel Cancer UK, an alarming 28 per cent of all bowel cancer cases in the UK are linked to a lack of fibre.

Dr Salhab also suggests snacking on apples, which can potentially slash the risk of colorectal cancer by 47 per cent. Kiwis are particularly powerful, providing over 80 per cent of an adult’s daily vitamin C needs and rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals that help neutralise free radicals.

Other healthy snacks recommended by Dr Salhab include guacamole, salsa, avocados, and tomatoes. These foods contain phytonutrients with proven cancer-fighting properties and are a good source of healthy fats, which may help guard against colon cancer.

While a healthy diet can lower the risk of chronic diseases such as bowel cancer, it’s essential to remember that ‘diet never replaces medical therapy or evaluation.’ If you’re concerned about changes in your bowel habits, consult with your GP.
