Eating Well for a Long Life? Study Finds Best Diet

A new study from Harvard University has identified the best diet for a long and healthy life. The researchers analyzed eating habits of 105,015 people over 30 years and found that sticking to a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats can significantly improve aging health.

The Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) emerged as the top dietary pattern, which emphasizes plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts. The AHEI also recommends limiting red meat, sugary drinks, and salt.

The study found that people who ranked high on the AHEI were 86% more likely to be healthy at 70 than those in the lowest fifth. The researchers suggest that a diet with moderate amounts of animal-based foods may promote overall healthy aging.

This study supports previous research showing strong associations between diet and good health. While it doesn’t prove direct cause and effect, the findings offer valuable insights into the benefits of eating well for a long life. The results have been published in Nature Medicine.
