Singer Ed Sheeran has spoken out after his surprise street concert was abruptly cut short by police in Bengaluru, India. The 33-year-old musician, who is currently on an international leg of his Mathematics tour, had been performing a pair of shows at the NICE Grounds on February 8 and 9.
According to fan-captured video footage shared on social media, Sheeran was singing his hit song “Shape of You” when a uniformed officer approached him and cut off his microphone. Despite attempts by fans to intervene, the officer remained firm, cutting short Sheeran’s performance.
However, in a message posted on Instagram Stories, Sheeran assured his followers that it was all good, explaining that they had obtained permission to busk before performing at the location. The singer later shared another post, showing himself posing in what appeared to be a backstage green room ahead of his second Bengaluru show.
Sheeran has been sharing highlights from his time in India on Instagram, including getting his first sitar lesson and jamming with Grammy-winning composer A.R. Rahman. His tour dates come just weeks after he made history by becoming the first international music artist to perform a concert in Bhutan.
