Egg McMuffin Day Brings $1 Breakfast Sandwiches to McDonald’s

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their iconic breakfast sandwich, McDonald’s is offering Egg McMuffins and Sausage McMuffins with Egg for just $1 on Sunday through the McDonald’s app. The promotion, dubbed Egg McMuffin Day, honors the sandwich’s enduring popularity.

Unlike other food chains that have announced price hikes due to egg shortages, McDonald’s has committed to keeping prices steady. According to Michael Gonda, the company’s Chief Impact Officer, this means customers won’t see surcharges on eggs, which are 100% cage-free and sourced in the US.

The Egg McMuffin was created by Herb Peterson, a McDonald’s franchisee in California, who introduced the sandwich in 1975. Peterson’s son, David, recalled that his father shared the idea with Ray Kroc, the businessman behind McDonald’s, and it became the foundation for the company’s breakfast menu.

For those interested in trying the Egg McMuffin, here are some key facts: the sandwich contains 310 calories and is made with an English muffin, egg, Canadian Bacon, American cheese, salted butter, and clarified butter. On top of the $1 promotion, McDonald’s is offering other deals, including a buy-one-get-one-free Sausage McMuffin with Egg for delivery orders through March 30.
