Eight people involved in the 2016 multimillion-dollar armed robbery of reality TV star Kim Kardashian were found guilty Friday, with some receiving prison sentences after a weekslong trial. Aomar Aït Khedache, the alleged ringleader, was sentenced to eight years in prison, with five suspended. Seven co-defendants were also convicted on various charges, including organized gang robbery and kidnapping.
Most defendants received significant prison terms, but some had portions of their sentences suspended due to time already served. Two defendants were acquitted, while one was ordered to pay €5,000 ($5,682) to Kim Kardashian and the rental apartment building’s concierge.
Judge David De Pas described the sentences as “lenient,” noting that the perpetrators caused harm even if no blood was shed. Kim Kardashian expressed gratitude for the French authorities’ pursuit of justice, calling the experience a “terrifying” event that left a lasting impact on her life.
In a statement, Kardashian said she forgave Aït Khedache but acknowledged the trauma inflicted. Her legal team praised the court’s decision and thanked the French authorities for treating Kardashian with respect throughout the process. The lawyer for one of the defendants welcomed the verdict, describing it as “fair” and “just.”
