A chickenpox outbreak at The Classical Academy’s central campus has confirmed three cases among students in grades 1-4. The academy, with around 600 students from kindergarten to sixth grade, took swift action after discovering the first case on Friday. According to school officials, infected students must stay home until their rash has dried or scabbed.
The El Paso County Public Health Department is providing safety guidance, and school administrators are working closely with the department to mitigate further spread of the virus. Chickenpox is highly contagious, typically lasting 4-7 days and affecting up to 90% of susceptible individuals in close contact. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend ease symptoms by taking a bath, using lotion, and applying baking soda, while avoiding scratching infected areas to prevent skin infections and further spread.
