Elden Ring: Nightreign has become a popular spin-off game from developer FromSoftware, despite initial doubts about its appeal. The game is set to receive one of its most requested features on July 30, when Duo Expeditions mode becomes available.
Players can choose to play solo or in teams of three, and the new feature allows for two-player co-op gameplay. This means players no longer need to search for a third player via matchmaking. However, communication is limited due to the absence of voice chat, relying on pinging locations on the map instead.
Gameplay in Nightreign is similar to Fortnite’s shrinking storm circle mechanic. Players must act quickly to gain levels and equipment before the 15-minute time limit expires. Defeating the boss at the end of the first night resets the circle, giving players another chance to progress.
As a roguelike game, every run is unique, with changing locations and night bosses. This encourages repeat playability, as players can try new matches without fear of repetition. Recently, FromSoftware released Everdark Sovereigns, more powerful versions of Nightlords that pose an increased challenge for expert players.
Duo Expeditions will arrive via a game update on July 30, making the game’s PC, PS5, and Xbox Series editions available for $40.
