Elden Ring’s Solo Mode to Get Duet Companion Feature

FromSoft has finally addressed the question on everyone’s mind: why no duos mode for Elden Ring: Nightreign at launch. According to director Junya Ishizaki, a simple oversight occurred during development as the main focus was on creating a multiplayer co-op game for three players.

Initially, the team prioritized solo player experiences by introducing rules and systems that made playing alone more viable. However, this meant neglecting the duos aspect. Now, with patch 1.02, a new trailer has confirmed that duos will be added to Elden Ring: Nightreign, set to release on July 30, 2025.

The duos update comes with quality of life improvements, including enhanced Relic filtering options. However, the team acknowledged that introducing this feature requires rebalancing the game for smaller teams, making it more challenging than trios.

Despite Elden Ring: Nightreign’s modest player count, which dropped from 300,000 concurrent players at launch to around 50,000 on average, the upcoming patch promises several welcome changes. The 1.02 update is expected to bring significant improvements, solidifying its place as a post-launch support feature for the game.
