Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remake Rumors Gain Momentum with Unreal Engine 5

A new report has fueled speculation on an alleged remake of Bethesda’s 2006 RPG, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. According to rumors, the game is being fully remade using Unreal Engine 5 and features changes to core systems such as blocking, stamina, and sneaking.

The rumour stem from MP1st, who cite a “former Virtuos employee” claiming that the game will make significant updates to these systems. In contrast with Oblivion’s old system of blocking, which was deemed too frustrating, the remake is said to draw inspiration from Soulslikes. Sneaking in the new version reportedly features enhanced visuals and reworked damage calculation.

The alleged changes to stamina are more forgiving, making it harder for players to get knocked down when running out of energy. The user interface has also been revamped for a younger audience, with the addition of hit reactions for both players and NPCs.

While the details seem plausible enough, previous leaks have hinted at an Oblivion remake in development. An earlier 2020 planning document from Microsoft’s FTC court proceedings referenced the project, which remains unconfirmed.

A more recent announcement from Microsoft states that there is a “brand new game” in development, although no further information has been released. The Elder Scrolls 6 may also be connected to this project.
