As a long-time advocate for electric cars, I’m left feeling vindicated by criticism about the technology’s limitations. For decades, I championed EVs as a more efficient alternative to fossil fuels due to their economic benefits, such as reduced dependence on volatile oil prices.
However, after years of ownership and experiencing the technology firsthand, I acknowledge that my early support was misguided. The high upfront cost, limited range, and inconvenient charging process were all valid concerns. Range anxiety was a harsh reality for many drivers, forcing them to spend extended periods waiting for public chargers.
My current setup at home, which harnesses solar power and energy storage, has alleviated these issues, but I still feel no sense of triumph. My regret is a reminder that even well-intentioned supporters can overlook technology’s shortcomings until they’re faced with the consequences.
