Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation Takes Over 3 Years

The US government has announced plans to build a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station along every major highway. However, the construction process is taking longer than expected, with some stations still under development after three years.

According to data from the US Department of Transportation, there are currently over 50,000 public EV charging stations in operation across the country. Despite this growth, concerns remain that not enough charging infrastructure exists to support a nationwide transition to electric vehicles by 2030.

Construction on the new highways is underway, but the process is being slowed down due to environmental and community impact assessments, as well as funding issues. The Department of Transportation says it aims to have all new highways completed by 2025, with all existing highways fully upgraded by 2040.

The agency estimates that over $20 billion will be invested in building out the charging network over the next decade. While progress is being made, some experts say more needs to be done to ensure a smooth transition to electric vehicles and meet carbon emissions targets.
