A tourist was killed alongside two others when an elephant charged at them during a walking safari in Zambia’s Luangwa River National Park, according to police. The incident occurred 595km from Lusaka, the capital city.
The tourists were accompanied by armed wildlife police officer and another person. The elephant was hit but continued its aggressive attack on the women, who died at the scene. Female elephants can become extremely aggressive when with young or feel threatened, officials said.
In March last year, an American tourist was killed in Kafue National Park after a bull elephant charged her vehicle. Another incident occurred in June near Livingstone, where an elephant threw another tourist from a car and trampled her to death.
