Ellen DeGeneres has confirmed she left the United States due to President Donald Trump’s re-election and allegations of a toxic work culture at her former show. The comedian and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved to the UK ahead of the US election in November. They bought a “part-time house” but instead decided to stay after hearing their friends’ concerns about Trump’s re-election.
In a recent interview, DeGeneres expressed her love for the English countryside, describing it as “absolutely beautiful.” She praised the country’s animal treatment, people’s politeness, and simpler way of life. The 67-year-old also announced that she and Portia would get married again in the UK if US gay marriage laws were reversed.
DeGeneres addressed her reputation as being “mean” following allegations of a toxic work culture on her former show, which ended in 2022 after facing criticism for its treatment of staff. She said it’s hurtful that people think she can’t express herself without being labeled as mean or complaining. DeGeneres stated she’s an empathetic and compassionate person who knows herself well.
