Elon Musk Blocks Signal App on X

Elon Musk’s social media platform X has started blocking links to the encrypted messaging app Signal. The move comes after researchers from cybersecurity company Mysk discovered that Signal was being used by government workers and journalists to communicate about sensitive topics.

Signal, a popular messaging app, encrypts texts between users and allows them to discuss sensitive subjects without fear of interception. Journalists are using Signal to solicit tips from unhappy federal workers, while government employees use it to report wrongdoing or blow the whistle on corporate activities like Dogecoin (DOGE).

When X users try to access previously posted Signal links, they receive a warning page with an option to proceed to the Signal web address. However, this blocking of Signal links appears to be selective, as Musk’s free speech principles only seem to apply to online right-wing groups and individuals who share his views.

The move has sparked concerns that X is prioritizing certain users over others, particularly those who speak out against corporate interests or government wrongdoing. This raises questions about the true scope of Musk’s free speech crusade and whether it extends to protecting marginalized voices.
