Elon Musk has proposed a radical overhaul of the US government, suggesting that “entire agencies” should be deleted to eliminate bureaucracy. During a recent videocall at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Musk cited concerns about artificial intelligence and thermonuclear warfare as reasons for his proposal.
Musk argued that the current system prioritizes the interests of bureaucrats over those of the people, saying, “We really have here rule of the bureaucracy as opposed to rule of the people — democracy.” He suggested deleting agencies instead of leaving them intact, stating, “If we don’t remove the roots of the weed, then it’s easy for the weed to grow back.”
Musk’s comments come at a time when he has consolidated power within the government and sidestepped career officials. His new role has given his views more weight, as he is now a key player in shaping US policy.
The billionaire also expressed an isolationist view of American power in the Middle East, where the US has been involved in several wars since 2001. Musk suggested that the US should focus on its own interests rather than interfering with other countries’ affairs.
Additionally, Musk criticized Sam Altman’s management of OpenAI and expressed concerns about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence. He also announced plans for a “Dubai Loop” project, which aims to create an underground transportation network in Dubai using his Boring Company technology.
The UAE’s crown prince has stated that he is open to exploring the development of a 17-kilometer-long underground network with 11 stations, which could transport over 20,000 passengers per hour.
