Elon Musk Celebrates First Self-Driving Tesla Delivery

Tesla has completed its first self-driving delivery to a customer, with the Model Y traveling 30 minutes from the Gigafactory in Austin through highways and city streets to reach its new owner’s home downtown.

Elon Musk celebrated the milestone on Friday, tweeting that it was the “first time that a car has delivered itself to its owner” and that the delivery was done ahead of schedule with no remote operators in control. The company shared footage of the drive, showing the vehicle navigating through various locations.

The success comes as Tesla expands its services in Austin, where it launched its robotaxi service earlier this week. The robotaxi service operates invite-only rides using a few Model Ys within a geofenced area of the city. Musk also congratulated his team on the successful launch, crediting a decade of hard work by the AI chip and software teams.

The company’s autonomous delivery system is seen as a significant step forward in its efforts to establish itself as a leader in the electric vehicle market.
