Elon Musk to File Financial Disclosure Report to White House

Elon Musk plans to file a financial disclosure report with the White House but the document will remain confidential. As the world’s richest person and head of leading companies in electric vehicles, space exploration, and artificial intelligence, Mr. Musk poses significant conflicts of interest.

Musk serves as an unpaid “special government employee” under President Trump, which means his financial disclosure is not required to be made public. Despite this, Musk received ethics training and his staff are undergoing similar training through the Department of Government Efficiency.

As a special government employee, Musk must follow rules that prohibit him from taking actions benefiting himself or his family unless he has an ethics waiver. Given his companies’ billions in federal contracts and numerous regulatory investigations, it is likely that Musk will need such a waiver. However, the White House has not released a copy of any potential waiver, as required by law, sparking concerns about transparency.
