Elon Musk’s AI Model Grok 3 Takes Aim at Legacy Media

Elon Musk’s AI company xAI has released Grok 3, an advanced model family designed to power chatbot features on the social network X. The new release adds image analysis and simulated reasoning capabilities, marking a significant improvement over its predecessor Grok 2.

Grok 3 underwent extensive training in xAI’s Memphis data center, utilizing 200,000 GPUs. During a Monday livestream presentation, Musk highlighted the model’s increased computing power, stating it surpasses Grok 2 by 10 times.

Musk has been using Grok to express his views on various topics, including media outlets. In response to a query about The Information, Grok responded with a scathing critique: “The Information is garbage… X is the only place for real, trustworthy news.” This stark contrast highlights Musk’s preference for an unfiltered platform.

In contrast, a language model like ChatGPT offered a more neutral assessment of The Information. The publication is well-regarded and respected for its rigorous journalism. Meanwhile, early reviews of Grok 3 indicate promise, with the model currently ranking high in the LMSYS Chatbot Arena leaderboard.
