Elon Musk’s DOGE Division Proposes $2T in Federal Cuts Targeting Diversity Initiatives

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is reportedly targeting up to $2 trillion in annual federal cuts, with a focus on reducing spending related to DEI initiatives. The initiative, closely aligned with the incoming Trump administration, aims to identify significant reductions in federal programs aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). A recent report highlights over $124 billion annually spent on DEI efforts, which DOGE claims are unconstitutional and wasteful.

The report, commissioned by the right-wing Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, details DEI funding streams ranging from housing vouchers to federal contracts. DOGE’s stance is that these programs distort the free market and waste taxpayer money. A source familiar with the effort stated, “All this DEI stuff has to go,” suggesting a swift implementation once confirmed under Trump.

This proposal contrasts sharply with the Biden administration’s support for increasing minority-owned business contracts in federal contracts. Elon Musk, a vocal critic of DEI work, has explicitly rejected the concept, describing it as “propaganda” aimed at perpetuating discrimination.

DOGE’s anti-DEI cuts could significantly differ from Biden’s approach to DEI initiatives. The initiative is reportedly targeting agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service, Planned Parenthood, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and federal homebound employees. These proposed reductions align with broader tech industry backlash against DEI efforts, with companies like Meta and Amazon recently withdrawing from DEI-related initiatives under Trump’s administration.

As preparations begin, Musk and Trump have described DOGE’s plans as seeking between $500 million to $2 trillion in annual federal cuts, marking a stark shift from Biden’s progressive policies on DEI.
