Elon Musk has brought his vision of the future to Los Angeles with the grand opening of a futuristic diner at a Tesla Supercharger location in Hollywood. The diner, which was initially teased on Twitter by Musk in 2018, features a retro-futuristic space station design inspired by the 1962 cartoon “The Jetsons.”
Inside, guests can enjoy American comfort food with a twist, including tuna melts and grilled cheese sandwiches made from Cybertruck boxes. The menu is designed to reflect Tesla’s brand values of sustainability and innovation. Chef Eric Greenspan, who has worked at notable restaurants like The Foundry on Melrose, oversees the kitchen operations.
Many attendees share enthusiasm for Musk’s business acumen and innovative approach, but some express reservations about his personal politics. Umut, a local owner of a Tesla Model Y, notes that he faces backlash from those who claim to have previously owned Teslas before Musk’s public persona shifted. However, he emphasizes that owning a car is a personal choice and not tied to one’s opinions on the company or its leader.
At 80 people waiting in line, the diner experiences long wait times, but patrons rave about the unique experience. Renuka Veerasingam, who sees Musk as humanity’s last hope for exploring space, feels inspired by the diner’s futuristic atmosphere. She notes that going to Mars is not just about financial gain or politics, but rather about human curiosity and the desire to push beyond boundaries.
As for what Musk hopes to find at the edge of the universe, Renuka suggests it may be “nothing” – a circular cycle where life begins anew. The grand opening marks an exciting milestone in Tesla’s expansion plans, offering customers a taste of its futuristic vision while navigating the complexities of innovation and societal politics.
