Elon Musk, owner of social media platform X, has admitted to losing the “propaganda war” as his popularity soars negative 14 points, according to recent polling data. The decline in Musk’s favorability ratings comes after he spent millions on politics to support Donald Trump’s attacks on immigrants.
Musk attributed the decline to liberals waging a successful propaganda campaign against him, but also conceded that he is making himself unpopular. He acknowledged that Republicans are not boosting his image and that having almost no countervailing campaign has made him vulnerable to criticism.
Trump aides have described Musk as “irritating” and “difficult to deal with.” Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Americans and activists worldwide protested Trump’s policies, including the cuts to Social Security. Protesters also vandalized Tesla vehicles and dealerships, including a 12-foot-tall statue of Musk.
Musk’s role in shaping online discourse through his ownership of X has been criticized for fueling the controversy. The Social Security Administration is reportedly shifting all public communications to X, sparking concerns about misinformation and potential manipulation.
The agency has pushed back against a false story claiming it was abandoning press releases, instead citing X as its new communication mechanism. Musk’s handling of the issue has sparked further outrage among critics, with 69% of voters disapproving of his support for the Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate who lost the election.
