Elon Musk’s Rise to Power Revealed in New Book

Entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk has declared himself “the reincarnation” of ancient Greek conqueror Alexander the Great, according to a new book on his life. The statement was made around 30 years ago by Musk to a partner at one of the firms that bankrolled his first start-up, Zip2.

In an interview with Washington Post reporter Faiz Siddiqui, Derek Proudian, a former investor in Musk’s company, recalled a lunch meeting where Musk stated his ambition to be as successful as Alexander the Great. Musk allegedly said he had “the samurai spirit” and would rather die than fail, leaving Proudian feeling concerned.

The book, Hubris Maximus, also explores Musk’s rise to becoming the world’s richest man through his relentless push at Tesla and chaotic takeover of Twitter. It sheds light on Musk’s relationship with President Donald Trump and offers an insider’s account of their 2020 meeting to discuss electric vehicles.

According to Gerber, a former Tesla investor, Musk has a complete disdain for authority, even from the Securities and Exchange Commission. A former Tesla software engineer, Nathan Murthy, recounted how Musk’s disregard for Covid health concerns and racial justice during the George Floyd protests convinced him of his boss’s callousness.

The book also offers personal anecdotes about Musk’s interactions with Twitter employees and executives who have described an awkward experience with waiting for 90 minutes to meet with him in a makeshift office.
