Singer-songwriter Elton John revealed that he “fell in love” with American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile after their initial meeting nearly 20 years ago. The two collaborated on a joint LP, “Who Believes in Angels?”, which was released recently.
John and Carlile met while John was performing his residency in Las Vegas, where Carlile had been a fan of John’s music since she was a child. Carlile wrote to John asking if he would be interested in playing on one of her tracks, and the two began working together.
John said that meeting Carlile was “a serendipity moment” that led to a long-term collaboration. He described getting to know Carlile as falling in love with not only her talent but also her as a person.
Carlile shared similar sentiments, stating that she had self-doubt during the recording process but found her confidence when working with John. The album was recorded with Bernie Taupin and Andrew Watt, and features an all-star band including Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer.
John expressed his satisfaction with the final product, saying it was “one of the toughest I’ve ever made” yet also a “great musical experience”. He credited Carlile for helping him push forward creatively.
The joint album marks a new era in music for John, who feels like he is moving into the future with Carlile’s help.
