Elton John Reveals His Struggle with Eye Infection Causing Blindness

Sir Elton John revealed at a charity event for the musical “The Devil Wears Prada” that he can’t see due to an ongoing eye infection. The musician, who wrote music for the show, has lost his vision in one eye and is undergoing treatment.

According to an Instagram post from September, John had been dealing with an eye infection since summer, which left him with limited vision in his right eye. He has not disclosed the cause of his infection but admitted that he is struggling.

John’s condition is a result of an eye infection, which can be caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites, or viruses. Eye infections can emerge from eye injuries, poor hygiene, or wearing dirty contact lenses.

Common types of eye infections include pink eye, corneal ulcer, endophthalmitis, and preseptal orbital cellulitis. Untreated eye infections can lead to blindness.

Symptoms of an eye infection include eye pain, red eyes, light sensitivity, blurry vision, itchy or burning eyes, watery discharge, and swelling of the eyelids.

To prevent eye infections, experts advise washing hands frequently, not rubbing eyes, wearing protective gear, sharing items that come into contact with the eyes, cleaning contact lenses, taking allergy medication, contacting an ophthalmologist for symptoms.
