Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was ejected from Monday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs after drawing two technical fouls. The ejection occurred with 2:59 left in the second quarter, and Embiid had argued with referee Jenna Schroeder earlier in the period.
According to crew chief Curtis Blair, Embiid received the first technical for incidental contact with Schroeder and was tossed out of the game shortly thereafter. Teammate Kyle Lowry restrained Embiid after he charged toward the officials following his ejection.
Embiid has been struggling this season, playing in just eight games due to injuries and suspensions. In Monday’s matchup against Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, Embiid showed some aggressiveness but looked rusty for most of the game. The 7-footers’ first matchup last January saw a dominant performance from Embiid, but he looked less sharp on Monday.
Wembanyama scored 26 points and nine rebounds in the loss, while Maxey contributed 32 points to Philadelphia’s 111-106 victory. Despite the ejection, Embiid still managed to put up nine points and three rebounds in his time on the court.
