Joseph Strange, 46, a former employee of Marshall Mathers (Eminem), has been charged with criminal infringement of a copyright and interstate transportation of stolen goods. The charges relate to the sale of unreleased music created by Eminem on the internet.
Strange was an employee at Eminem’s music studio in Ferndale, Michigan from 2007 to 2021. According to investigators, he sold the music through various online sites. The FBI identified multiple individuals who bought the music, linking it back to Strange.
If convicted, Strange faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for copyright infringement, and up to 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of stolen goods. A complaint is not evidence of guilt and does not mean trial has been set.
The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Oakland County Resident Agency and prosecuted by Assistant US Attorneys Timothy Wyse and Alyse Wu.
