Harris Yulin, the veteran actor known for his versatility and memorable performances in films like Scarface, Clear and Present Danger, and Training Day, has died at the age of 87. Yulin passed away on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest in New York City.
Throughout a career spanning over five decades, Yulin appeared in numerous television shows and films, often playing character roles that showcased his acting talent. He is perhaps best remembered for his performances as corrupt detectives in Scarface, Clear and Present Danger, and Training Day, but also had memorable roles in films like Ghostbusters II and Multiplicity.
Yulin’s extensive filmography includes notable titles such as Night Moves, St. Ives, Another Woman, Murder at 1600, Bean, Cradle Will Rock, Chelsea Walls, Rush Hour 2, and Norman. He also made appearances on popular TV shows including Frasier, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Ozark, Kojak, Ironside, Cagney & Lacey, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The X-Files, Entourage, The Blacklist, Veep, Murphy Brown, and Billions.
Born on November 5, 1937, in Los Angeles, Yulin was adopted at four months old by a Russian family who raised him in a Jewish household. He began his acting career in the early 1960s, appearing on Broadway and later transitioning to television and film. Yulin received an Emmy nomination for his guest appearance on Frasier in 1996.
Yulin is survived by his wife Kristen Lowman, son-in-law Ted, nephew Martin, godchildren Marco and Lara, and daughter Claire Lucido, who also passed away. The actor was set to start production on the MGM+ series American Classic later this year. Harris Yulin’s death marks the loss of a talented and dedicated artist who will be remembered for his impressive body of work.
