Veteran actress Valerie Mahaffey, known for her iconic roles in Northern Exposure, Desperate Housewives, and Young Sheldon, has died at the age of 71. Her husband, Joseph Kell, announced her passing on May 30th in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer.
Mahaffey’s career spanned nearly five decades, with notable performances in eccentric characters. She won a supporting actress Emmy for her portrayal of Eve in Northern Exposure and received an Independent Spirit award nomination for her role as Madame Reynard in the 2020 dark comedy French Exit.
Colleagues and friends paid tribute to Mahaffey, including Michelle Pfeiffer and Rob Morrow, who described her as “a breath of fresh air” and a “remarkable talent.” Mahaffey’s impressive resume includes guest roles on popular shows like Seinfeld, Grey’s Anatomy, and Glee. She is survived by her husband and daughter, Alice.
