Engadget has been reviewing consumer tech since 2004 and is now sharing a recap of its recent reviews. This includes the new base-model iPad with an A16 chip, the budget-friendly Nothing Phone 3a duo, and some premium headphones from Noble Audio.
The latest iPad features a fast A16 chip that provides enough power for most tasks, double the storage, and 2GB more RAM than the previous model at the same price point. However, it lacks Apple Intelligence and has an outdated display.
On the other hand, the Nothing Phone 3a is a great budget device with a large 120Hz AMOLED screen, fun design, and a surprisingly great camera package for its price. The Pro model offers better-than-midrange cameras.
Noble Audio’s FoKus Apollo wireless headphones boast incredibly good sound quality but come at a premium price of $649, which may not be justified by their limited features.
Finally, contributing reporter Kris Holt reviewed the new Assassin’s Creed title and found it to have impressive technical work, great performances, and an expansive story, but is also weighed down by frustrating decisions and antiquated gameplay systems.
In related news, senior reporter Jeff Dunn recently compared the Amazon Fire HD 8 against Walmart Onn 8 in a battle of sub-$100 tablets, concluding that spending more on a new tablet from reputable brands like Samsung or Lenovo may be the best option for better performance. Engadget’s reviews season continues with upcoming reviews of the Pixel 9a, ASUS ROG Flow Z13, and AMD Ryzen 9950X3D, among others.
