Jeremy Allen White is set to star and executive produce a Netflix adaptation of André Aciman’s novel *Enigma Variations*. The project, currently in development at the streaming platform, follows White’s successful roles in FX’s *The Bear* and Showtime’s *Shameless*, among other projects.
Previously, White contributed to Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer’s critically acclaimed *Call Me by Your Name*, for which James Ivory wrote and Luca Guadagnino directed. The film earned four Oscar nominations.
Amanda Kate Shuman will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, while Oliver Hermanus directs and executes producing duties alongside White. Aciman will also exec produce alongside White on behalf of Media Res.
The novel centers on Paul, a man whose love interests evolve from adolescence to adulthood, marked by intense yet transient passions. The film synopsis hints at depth and intrigue, promising to explore themes of ungraspable desires and enduring hope for love.
White’s current projects include upcoming films like *Deliver Me from Nowhere* and *The Mandalorian & Grogu*, while Shuman has worked on Amazon’s *The Wheel of Time*. Hermanus has directed notable films such as *Shirley Adams* and *The Endless River*.
For fans of Aciman’s novels, this adaptation promises a fresh take on the beloved stories.
