National Chicken Wing Day has become a nationwide excuse to indulge in this popular dish. The tradition, which started in Buffalo, New York in 1977, encourages people to enjoy chicken wings from various restaurants across the country.
In 2025, Americans consumed over 1.2 billion servings of wings, down by 1.5% from last year. Despite the decline, the history of chicken wings remains a topic of debate, with many claiming that the dish was invented in the 1960s and gained popularity in the 1980s.
To celebrate National Chicken Wing Day, several wing-centric restaurants are offering free food deals and discounts on July 29. Some popular options include Buffalo Wild Wings, which is giving customers six free wings with an order of $10 or more; Popeyes, which has a buy one, get one free deal on bone-in wings; and Wingstop, which offers five free wings with a qualifying chicken purchase.

* 7-Eleven: Buy an 8-piece order of Boneless Wings and get eight free, or buy five Bone-in Wings and get five free.
* Applebee’s: When you buy one to-go order of Boneless Wings or Classic Bone-In Wings you get another free.
* Beef ‘O’ Brady’s: Buy 10 and get five free, or buy 20 and get 10 free, or buy 30 and get 15 free.
* Bolay Fresh Bold Kitchen: Get five wings for $5.
* Bonchon: Get five wings for just $5 on July 29.
