Former Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders OC Eric Bieniemy is returning to the NFL as the Chicago Bears’ running backs coach. This marks his first season back in the league after a year spent as UCLA’s assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
Bieniemy, who was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams with the Chiefs, joins Ben Johnson’s staff. His departure from Washington followed an incident where players expressed concerns about his coaching style to head coach Ron Rivera.
However, Bieniemy’s intentions to return to the NFL were clear after he interviewed for a position on Mike Vrabel’s staff with the New England Patriots but ultimately didn’t get hired.
In a recent interview, Bieniemy expressed interest in rejoining the Chiefs’ coaching staff if there was an opportunity. He acknowledged Andy Reid as a mentor and respected coach who is also like a father figure to him.
Bieniemy will bring his experience and championship success to the Bears, providing a veteran presence on Ben Johnson’s new staff.
