Erik Menendez Struggles With Serious Medical Condition Ahead of Parole Hearing

Erik Menendez, 54, is battling a serious medical condition behind bars as he awaits his parole hearing. His lawyer, Mark Geragos, revealed that Erik needs to be released from prison to focus on the upcoming hearing.

Mark Geragos expressed concern for Erik’s health and urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to medically furlough him ahead of the parole hearing. The judge has already stated that Erik is not an “unreasonable risk” after reducing his life sentence in 1996.

Erik and his brother Lyle will appear before a California parole board on August 22, which is just a month away from their release date. A medical furlough would allow Erik to receive treatment outside of prison and prepare for the hearing.

Geragos declined to disclose further details about Erik’s diagnosis due to HIPAA restrictions. However, he emphasized that Erik’s condition makes him an ideal candidate for early release.
