ESA Replaces E3 with ‘iicon’, Focuses on Corporate Gaming

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is launching a new gaming event called “iicon”, or the “interactive innovation conference”. The event aims to replace E3, but it’s unclear if gamers will be as excited. Despite its lack of catchy name, iicon boasts impressive participation from major game developers and publishers. Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, Disney, and more have signed on.

However, social media promotions suggest that iicon will cater to “visionaries”, “changemakers”, and “innovators”, which could indicate a shift towards the corporate side of gaming. This might mean the event focuses on brand alignments, synergy, and moving the needle rather than showcasing upcoming projects or internet-breaking surprises.

The decline and demise of E3 in 2023 has left a void that is currently being filled by events like Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest and the Game Awards, which have already announced their 2025 dates. It remains to be seen if iicon will be able to fill this gap and provide an alternative for gamers.
