Esper Accused of ‘Borderline Treasonous’ Behavior by Trump’s Pick for FBI Director

Former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper is at the center of controversy after being accused of “borderline treasonous” behavior by Trump’s pick for FBI director, Kash Patel. In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Patel claimed that Esper’s actions were not in line with his duty as a public servant.

Patel, who served with Esper in Trump’s first term as president, made the comment during a discussion about his plans for the FBI. He also expressed support for Esper’s nomination to lead the agency, saying “We need to fight” against those who would undermine its authority.

However, some critics are questioning Patel’s qualifications for the position, given his close relationship with Esper. National security analyst John McAuley told CNN that Patel’s selection could be part of a “retribution campaign” aimed at targeting opponents of Trump’s policies.

The controversy surrounding Esper’s nomination comes as the FBI faces increased scrutiny over its handling of sensitive information and allegations of politicization. As the US government continues to grapple with these issues, Patel’s nomination raises concerns about the agency’s independence and impartiality.
