The highly anticipated College Football Playoff (CFP) season is just around the corner, with the first games set to take place in early September. Despite a lack of competition so far this August, ESPN’s college football reporters are confident in their predictions for the top 12 teams that will make up the CFP beginning in December.
Last season’s inaugural 12-team bracket proved that the playoff truly gives new life to any team that gains entry, with Ohio State winning the championship despite starting as a No. 8 seed. This season’s format has been tweaked slightly, with the top four seeds now determined by a straight seeding model rather than the previous method of awarding the highest-ranked conference champions.
The reporters have compiled their predictions for the top 12 teams that will make up the CFP this year. While there are some variations in their rankings, Penn State is consistently ranked among the top two spots alongside Texas and Clemson. The Big Ten powerhouse is followed closely by Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Oregon.
