ESPN Eyes College Football “RedZone” After NFL Acquisition

ESPN is reportedly considering a college football “RedZone” program after acquiring the NFL’s media assets in a deal worth 10% equity stake. The move could bring the beloved Sunday afternoon show, known for its fast-paced coverage of teams about to score, into college football.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that ESPN will utilize the RedZone name for other sports, including college football, during an appearance on “SportsCenter.” Scott Hanson, who has hosted the NFL RedZone since 2009, expressed optimism about the new partnership and reassured fans that the flagship show will not change.

The announcement comes as the 2025 NFL season approaches. A college football “RedZone” could attract casual fans without a college team affiliation, similar to how the existing program draws viewers on Sundays. ESPN is also building its one-stop sports watching app, which is set to release this fall. With the RedZone name now under their control, opportunities for expansion into other sports, such as basketball and potentially others, are possible.

However, Goodell emphasized that the flagship NFL RedZone show will continue to be produced in-house, with no changes expected for fans.
