ESPN’s Top Picks to Replace West Virginia Coach DeVries

ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla believes West Virginia University (WVU) will find a suitable replacement for departing head coach Darian DeVries. Following DeVries’ departure to Indiana, Fraschilla suggests two candidates who would be perfect fits: Will Wade and Jerrod Calhoun.

Will Wade, currently the head coach at McNeese, boasts an impressive 57-10 record over his past two seasons. He also has a proven track record from his stints as the head coach at LSU (2017-2022) and Chattanooga (2009-2011). Wade’s experience and success make him a top contender for the WVU job.

Jerrod Calhoun, a familiar name to West Virginia fans, is an assistant coach with a strong background. He spent time under Bob Huggins at WVU from 2007-2012 before becoming the head coach at Fairmont State. Since then, he has led Youngstown State and Utah State to 72 combined wins over two seasons.

While both candidates have impressive resumes, Fraschilla believes one or both could be a great fit for WVU in DeVries’ wake.
