EU Army Not on the Horizon, Poland’s Sikorski Says

Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has stated that European countries will not create a unified army in response to threats from Russia. In an interview with Polish state TV, Sikorski emphasized the importance of national defense and rejected the idea of unifying European armies.

Sikorski acknowledged the need for Europe to develop its own defense capabilities, citing the formation of a reinforced brigade by the European Union. However, he clarified that this would involve national components within NATO and EU subsidies for the defense industry.

The Polish foreign minister also reiterated Poland’s commitment to protecting its eastern flank through NATO membership, rather than deploying troops in Ukraine. Sikorski expressed support for an EU force but emphasized the need for a distinct identity within Europe’s military efforts.
