EU Countries Threaten Reimposition of Sanctions on Iran if Nuclear Talks Fail

European Union countries France, Germany, and the UK are warning that they will reimpose sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme unless talks resume by the end of August. The three nations, known as the E3, have offered to extend a deadline for negotiations but say their efforts have been ignored. Iranian lawmakers have responded by saying they would withdraw from a 2015 nuclear deal if new sanctions are imposed. The E3 countries claim they will trigger “snapback” mechanisms to reinstate previous sanctions unless Iran agrees to limit its nuclear programme. This comes amid tensions between Iran and Israel, as well as the US, following recent attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.
