EU Official Calls Gaza Conflict ‘Genocide’

A senior European Union official, Teresa Ribera, the Executive Vice President, has publicly broken with her body’s position on the Israel-Gaza conflict by labeling it “genocide”. Ribera told Politico that if it is not genocide, the situation in Gaza resembles the definition of genocide.

She described the situation as a concrete population being targeted and killed, while also condemning them to starvation. The European Commission recently proposed curbing Israeli access to its research funding program due to Israel’s alleged human rights violations.

The proposal stated that Israel has violated a human rights clause in an agreement with the EU, citing thousands of civilian deaths and extreme malnutrition among children as evidence. This stance contrasts with Israel’s claim that its actions are justified as self-defense and accusations of genocide have been dismissed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
