The European Union has made it clear that it will not make any concessions on Ukraine until Russia agrees to stop its war. In a statement, EU policy chief Kaja Kallas said that there should be no discussions of concessions until an unconditional ceasefire with strong monitoring and security guarantees is in place.
Kallas also emphasized the importance of involving European leaders and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in any negotiations on Ukraine. She stated that the US has the power to force Russia to negotiate seriously, but any deal must include Ukraine and Europe as a matter of security.
The EU is firmly opposed to Trump’s proposal to “swap” Ukrainian and Russian borders, which they see as a backdoor for further Russian aggression against Ukraine and Europe. Kallas said that Russia’s war aims are not just about seizing territory in Ukraine, but also about destroying the continent’s security.
European leaders have issued a statement affirming that “the path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also confirmed that Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier and emphasized the need for a real, living peace that people will respect.
