French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has stated that the European Union will not let other nations attack its sovereign borders, responding to US President-elect Donald Trump’s comments on taking control of Greenland. Trump had declined to rule out military or economic action as part of his goal to acquire the island, which has been part of Denmark for over 600 years.
In a radio interview, Barrot said he did not believe the US would invade Greenland, but acknowledged that the world may have entered a period where “survival of the fittest” is the norm. He advised the EU to strengthen and not be intimidated by threats from other nations, emphasizing its strength as a continent.
Trump’s comments further highlighted his expansionist agenda, just two weeks before he takes office on January 20th. The French foreign minister’s response suggests that the EU will not back down in the face of external pressure, standing firm on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
