European Leaders Meet to Discuss Ukraine War Amid Saudi Talks

European leaders held an emergency summit in Paris on Monday to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine. The meeting, attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, was seen as a response to the US-Russia peace talks set to take place in Saudi Arabia.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made clear that Europe has no role to play in any potential peace negotiations. In contrast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Kyiv will not participate in the upcoming meeting between US and Russian officials on Tuesday.

Despite this, several European leaders emphasized the need for cooperation with the US on security issues. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that Europe must work together with the US to address security concerns, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted that decisions about Ukraine should involve all parties involved.
