Saber Interactive has announced that Evil Dead: The Game is being removed from digital storefronts due to expiring licenses, despite strong fan support for its asymmetric multiplayer. Players can still access the game’s online matches and single-player missions until the servers are shut off.
Saber Interactive confirmed on Wednesday that it has started removing the game from digital platforms like Steam, PlayStation, and Epic Games Store. However, fans will be able to continue playing the game through a discounted $10 version available on Xbox. This offer is expected to expire soon.
The game received mixed reviews upon its release in May 2022, with some praising its multiplayer horror experience and others criticizing its poor balance and grindiness. Saber Interactive’s CEO, Matthew Karch, downplayed negative reviews, citing the importance of sales and player reactions over critical reception. Despite this, the company discontinued content updates for the game less than a year after launch and canceled a Switch version.
Until then, players can enjoy online matches and single-player missions, but be aware that these will require an internet connection. Saber Interactive has taken a similar approach with Friday the 13th, which switched to peer-to-peer matchmaking to preserve its online experience.
