As the president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, I am deeply concerned about the recent attacks on mRNA vaccines. The data speaks for itself – these vaccines have saved countless lives and prevented severe illness from COVID-19.
According to a report by the Commonwealth Fund, without vaccination, the US would have seen an additional 3.2 million deaths and 18.5 million hospitalizations between December 2020 and November 2022. These vaccines underwent rigorous scientific testing and monitoring, with extensive data backing their safety and efficacy.
As physicians, we understand that patients may have concerns about vaccines. We are committed to providing evidence-based guidance so our patients can make informed decisions. However, the spread of disinformation by those with a significant platform makes this task much more challenging.
