Experts Raise Concern Over Autism Link to Common Medication

US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has warned that a recent trend of pregnant mothers taking over-the-counter pain medication Tylenol due to President Trump’s policies is “pathological.” The trend began after reports linked the medicine to autism, with some studies suggesting it may be more common in boys who are circumcised.

Kennedy pointed out that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has historically focused on research about the genetic drivers of lung cancer rather than studying the genetic drivers of autism. He says the administration is now working to identify the “ideology” behind the autism epidemic and prevent it.

Tylenol manufacturer Kenvue strongly disagrees with the administration’s assessment, saying there is no scientific evidence linking acetaminophen to autism. The company stated that taking Tylenol does not cause autism and expressed concern for expecting mothers.

The trend of pregnant women protesting Trump by taking Tylenol has sparked criticism from some who say it is irresponsible. Experts are calling for more research into the potential link between Tylenol and autism, as well as other factors contributing to the rising rates of autism diagnoses.
